If you or your family member are enrolled in UC-sponsored medical coverage and become eligible for Medicare Part A (hospital insurance), then you must enroll in Medicare Part B (medical insurance) and transfer to UC-sponsored medical coverage for Medicare enrollees.

If you or your enrolled family member are not eligible for premium-free Medicare Part A, UC does not require you to enroll in Medicare Part B. Please note, Medicare charges a 10 percent per year penalty for every year you delay Part B. You may want to consider enrolling in Medicare Part B if you will qualify for Medicare Part A at any time in the future. If you or your enrolled family member are turning age 65 and are not eligible for premium-free Part A, you must complete and return UC's Medicare Declaration form (UBEN 126) [PDF] attesting to your ineligibility.

If you are eligible for Medicare but do not enroll, you will be permanently de-enrolled from your UC-sponsored medical plan.

UC HR/Benefits will send you information on Medicare enrollment a few months before your 65th birthday.

UC-Sponsored Medicare Advantage Plans
If you and/or your eligible family members are enrolled in a UC-sponsored medical plan and you (and/or they) enroll in a non-UC HMO Medicare Advantage plan, you (and/or they) lose eligibility to participate in UC-sponsored plans.
