Cards are good for three years
If you are enrolled in the UC Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) program and use a SHPS spending account card, you should know that cards issued to you and any family members can be used for three consecutive calendar years after issuance -- provided that you are enrolled in HCRA each year. You must re-enroll in HCRA each year during Open Enrollment to have an account in the coming year.
Here is what this means to you --
If you enrolled in HCRA in 2007 and received a card which you activated:
Assuming you re-enrolled in HCRA for 2008, you may continue to use your card now and during the rest of 2008 as long as you have funds in your account. Your new 2008 annual HCRA spending amount has been loaded onto the card you received last year, and you do not need to reactivate it to use it. You will not receive a new card this year.
If you enrolled in HCRA for the first time for calendar year 2008:
You should receive your spending account card by January 20, 2008. Your card is ready for use as soon as you activate it, as the instructions received with your card explain. If you re-enroll in HCRA for 2009, you will continue to use the same card in 2009.
