The 2003 CalPERS Long-Term Care Application Period will begin on April 1, 2003, and end on June 30, 2003. All public employees and retirees (including non-CalPERS members) will have the opportunity to apply for coverage. Your spouse, adult siblings, parents, and parents-in-law are eligible to apply for the program even if you choose not to apply.
The average cost for one year in a nursing home today is $55,000. Typically, neither health insurance nor Medicare covers long-term care. The CalPERS Long-Term Care Program is designed to protect you and those you love from the potentially devastating cost of long-term care. The younger you are when you apply, the less a plan costs.
