[June 2, 2000 ] TIAA-CREF recently announced it is discontinuing the Teachers Long-Term Care Plan and replacing it with an improved plan called Teachers SelectCare. TIAA-CREF is in the process of implementing the new plan, which they anticipate will be available for California residents in early July. (The new plan is currently available in all states except California.) The new plan will be similar to the Teachers Long-Term Care Plan, but will include many improvements, such as the addition of a 10% spousal discount. Individuals who are currently enrolled in the Teachers Long-Term Care Plan will have the opportunity to change to the new Teachers SelectCare plan, although they do not have to. Three months prior to the ?anniversary date? of their enrollment, they will receive an offer letter from TIAA-CREF to enroll in a comparable plan. The letter will include rate information. When the new plan is available for California residents, UC HR/Benefits will notify employees and annuitants, both on this website and in future editions of HR/Benefits Review and New Dimensions.
