Like many at UC, Peter is concerned about the rising costs of medical coverage. "I know there’s a lot UC can’t control. But every year, most of my raise is eaten up because the cost of health insurance keeps going up."

Still, after 16 years as a UC employee, the UC benefit Peter values most is health care, especially since he has a lower back problem. "I use a lot of physical therapy; it’s certainly something I couldn’t pay for on my own."

When it comes to planning for retirement, Peter appreciates the UC Retirement Plan (UCRP): "It's comforting knowing there's some kind of safety net." He has thought about his retirement benefits and his plans for how he will live in retirement. "We're probably going to end up selling our house and moving to a small town with lower costs and near a good hospital. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up working into my 80s, just like my dad."
