The retirement process usually begins about three months before you wish to retire. It begins when you request a Personal Retirement Profile (PRP). If you are an active employee, contact your local Benefits Office. If you are an inactive member of UCRP or if you are currently receiving UCRP disability income, call UC Customer Service at 1-800-888-8267.
Your request for a retirement profile does not commit you to anything. It will provide information to help you make decisions about whether to receive basic retirement income or a lump sum cashout.
After reviewing your PPP, if you decide to retire, make an appointment with your local Benefits Office. It's a good idea to bring your spouse or domestic partner with you. Also bring any important documents you may need such as birth certificates. During your meeting with the Benefits Representative, he/she will prepare your Retirement Election Form, which will show your specific retirement date, your retirement benefit choice and your benefit amount. You may sign the document at the meeting or take it home and return the signed document later.
