The University and UPTE have been meeting for continued negotiations since March 2008. More recently, the parties met in Berkeley on July 8th and 9th. The parties are engaged in active exchanges of proposals and discussions concerning the parties respective positions. Several informational sessions have been held where the University presents information on the state of the UCRP, StayWell, and this last week, an update on the status of the UC fiscal emergency from the Associate VP for Budget Operations.
Of the approximately 47 articles that have been open for negotiation, the University and UPTE have tentatively agreed to six (6) articles. In addition to negotiating the articles of the Agreement, the University and UPTE have been discussing other ancillary issues including the Voluntary Separation Program (VSP). On the VSP, the parties have agreed that the program may be made available to UPTE RX and TX employees where offered, provided that certain criteria are met as agreed by the University and UPTE.
The next bargaining dates are scheduled for: July 15-17 at UC San Diego; August 5-7 at UPTE Office-Berkeley; August 12-13 at UPTE Office-Berkeley, August 19-21 at UC San Diego; August 31-September 2 at UC San Diego; and September 23-25 at UC Office of the President.
The University looks forward to continued good faith bargaining with the Union as the parties work together to make progress and achieve a full agreement.
