Example: Martha received a letter that stated her continuing appointment base would be 67% annually. After she received her letter, the department decided to cancel a course from its curriculum. Martha had regularly taught that course. Assuming that the rest of Martha’s courses remained the same and there were no other courses available, Martha must receive 30 days notice, or pay in lieu of such notice, and an explanation of why the appointment is being reduced. The only time this situation applies is when the initial continuing appointment is established and the reduction does not bring the average base appointment percentage to zero. |
