Example: Jane has taught 100% for five years in the History Department. In the sixth year, her appointment is suddenly reduced to 50%, with the Department stating that it does not wish to commit to a continuing appointment at 100%. This is not permitted under the contract. Sixth year appointments should reflect actual need. Sixth year appointment percentages generally establish the base percentage for continuing appointment beyond the sixth year. The contract does not permit departments to reduce an NSF’s appointment percentage in their sixth year for reasons other than there being no need for courses taught by an NSF. |
