The University and the UC-AFT submitted a joint declaration of impasse to the California Public Employment Relations Board on February 11th and are currently engaged in impasse mediation. The first meeting with a mediator from the State Mediation and Conciliation Service took place in Oakland on March 24th. The issue being discussed in mediation are Wages and Professional Development. The University has already implemented the regular merit program for Librarians for fiscal year 08-09 but the parties are still apart on the AFT's demands for across the board increases. If the parties do not resolve the negotiations in mediation, the next step would be to participate in a fact-finding hearing. The findings of the panel are advisory.
