Due to the worsening budget crisis, regrettably the University was compelled to withdraw its current wage proposal originally submitted to CUE on April 23rd as part of a package proposal. The University withdrew its wage proposal via a letter dated June 22nd from Senior Negotiator Peter Chester to CUE Chief Negotiator Amatullah Alaji-Sabrie. As stated in Mr. Chester's letter, the University could not keep the wage proposal (which calls for modest increases over a three year period) on the table since the University is confronting a funding deficit of more than $800 million for FY 08-9 and 09-10. The University plans on submitting another wage proposal shortly after the Regents consider the President Mark Yudof's recommendations for budgetary savings at their July meeting. In the interim, the University has invited the CUE bargaining team to meet in order to discuss the University's budget and to answer questions that CUE may have.
