The University and CUE have been involved in contract negotiations since May 2008. Negotiations have been collegial and constructive. At the end of 2008, the Union agreed to allow members to participate in the UC wellness program, StayWell. In addition, CUE agreed to the 2009 health benefit rates. Due to a special one-time subsidy UC is employing for its 2009 health benefits, UC employees will see lower premium increases than they otherwise would, with some employees seeing decreases in their net monthly medical insurance premiums.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for February 3-5 in Irvine.
