The University of California employs approximately 12,000 Academic Student Employees. These academic student employees, who are primarily graduate students, provide vital services as Teaching Assistants and other instructional assistants such as readers and tutors in support of faculty and lecturers. The unit includes academic student employees at all campuses except UCSF and UCM. All are represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW).
These academic student employees play an important role in helping UC faculty fulfill the University’s instructional mission, and UC values their many important contributions.
