II-37 Establishment of Senior Management Positions, Titles, Salary Grades
A. ESTABLISHMENT OF SENIOR MANAGEMENT POSITIONS
A position shall be designated as Senior Management on the basis of criteria such as the management nature of the work, the reporting relationship, the degree of independent decision making required, the responsibility for decisions, the accountability of the position, and the depth and breadth of specialized knowledge and skills required to perform the functions. In the case of academic Deans and Provosts, positions are established in conjunction with approval of appropriate programs. In the case of Officers of The Regents, positions are established by the Board of Regents.
B. ASSIGNMENT OF TITLES
A title shall be assigned to each Senior Management position which conveys the organizational level of the position and the nature and scope of the responsibilities assigned.
C. SALARY GRADES
Senior Management positions shall be assigned to an appropriate Senior Management salary grade.
D. AUTHORITY
Authority to establish Senior Management positions, assign titles, and determine appropriate salary for all positions at the entry level grade, Grade A, is delegated to the Chancellor. Those actions for positions at Salary Grades B through E require the approval of the President, who acts upon the recommendation of the Senior Management Advisory Committee, following the review of a proposal submitted by the Chancellor or Laboratory Director.
Authority to abolish Senior Management positions is delegated to the President, the Chancellor, or Laboratory Director.
Authority to establish and abolish Senior Management positions within the offices of the Principal Officers of The Regents is vested in the General Counsel, Treasurer, and the Secretary of The Regents, except as such authority may be reserved to the Board of Regents.
