Court Grants Restraining Order Against AFSMCE Strike; UC Calls on Union to Settle New Contract for PCT Employees

San Francisco Superior Court today (July 11) granted the request of the Public Employment Relations Board for a temporary restraining order against an AFSCME strike, scheduled for July 14-18, 2008. The order prohibits any strike by Service unit or Patient Care Technical unit employees. It is the University's hope that the union will agree to return to the bargaining table and work with us to reach agreement for our patient care technical employees.

UC last bargained with AFSCME for patient care technical employees on June 27th, when the University extended the deadline on a proposal that would mean a minimum of 26% wage increase for PCT employees over the length of the contract.  The University has offered to further extend the deadline on that last offer if the union will agree to continue negotiations.
