UC has reached a tentative agreement with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) over a re-opener agreement for Unit 18, with a focus on University lecturers. Final agreement is pending ratification by Unit 18 represented employees.
The University bargaining team believes that this tentative agreement achieves the major goals outlined by UC at the commencement of negotiations, and commends the professionalism of the AFT bargaining team throughout the negotiations. Highlights of the tentative agreement include:
- Salary - Employees in the Unit 18 bargaining unit shall receive an average increase of approximately 5% over the next three years, including special salary adjustments for lecturers based on salary level and length of service;
- Workload - The bargaining teams reached tentative agreement on a side letter clarifying workload maximums for full-time Unit 18 employees in writing programs and foreign language departments.
The ratification vote is currently scheduled for the first week of October. If the tentative agreement is ratified, there will not be any re-openers for the remainder of the contract, which expires on July 31, 2010.
