Changing Plans: In general, you can change medical plans during Open Enrollment, which is usually held in November. The change becomes effective on January 1.

Additionally, if you have a family change that results in new family members (birth, marriage, etc) not only can you add the family member to your current medical plan (effective on the date of birth, marriage, etc.) but you can also change medical plans (effective on the first of the following month).

If your medical group leaves your California HMO, you may be able to change plans due to a mid-year status change. See the Benefits Office or the person in your department who handles benefits for more information.
