As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to providing quality benefits, programs and career opportunities for all employees, UC is undertaking a review of a number of Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) to better provide non-represented staff employees with opportunities for career development and professional growth, and to strengthen resources for employees to balance their work-life needs.
The University proposes revisions to PPSM 20 (Recruitment) and PPSM 50 (Professional Development) to provide resources to assist staff employees with career progression and professional growth. In addition, new University-wide Procedures for PPSM 20 and 50 are being proposed to provide guidance in the development of local implementing procedures which will ensure consistency in the application of these policies at all locations.
The major proposed changes to PPSM 20 are:
- Formalization of career ladder recruitment and streamlining of advancement opportunities within a single class series
- Permit an exception to recruitment for employees competitively selected for an internship program to be appointed to a vacant position pursuant to local guidelines and approvals
The major proposed changes to PPSM 50 are:
- Enhanced language to support employee professional development
- Providing, in general, 80 hours of release time per calendar year based on an approved development plan
The proposed revised polices and new procedures are available online.
