Generally, if you're receiving monthly Social Security benefits, Medicare Part A is an automatic entitlement, at no cost to you, at age 65 (or after you've received Social Security disability benefits for 24 months). Part B is available for a basic monthly premium which is usually deducted from your Social Security benefit.

If you don't know if you are eligible, you can call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213. If you are not eligible based on your own employment, be sure to ask Social Security about possible entitlement on your spouse's record, or through a former or deceased spouse.
