[February 1, 2005 - UPDATE] Because of the volume of responses to the December 15, 2004 letter, the deadline for requesting a distribution has been extended to March 1, 2005. UCRS has launched a project to obtain current address information for some former employees with money remaining in the Defined Contribution Plan and/or the Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan. Over the next few months, letters will be mailed to the last known addresses of former employees whose account balances are below $2,000. Inactive participants with an account balance below this minimum are required to close the account. Mail returned by the Post Office will be tracked and sent to a company specializing in locating such "lost" plan participants. Participants with current addresses will receive instructions about how to request a distribution from their account. If our efforts to locate a participant are not successful or if a participant does not come forward to claim the money within 45 days of the mailing date, the University may close the account and move the money into a central fund along with other abandoned accounts. "Lost" participants who come forward after their account has been closed will be able to retrieve their assets from the central fund. Procedures for retrieval are being finalized and will be published here as soon as they become available. Useful Links:
