[December 1, 2000] Employees who are active members of the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) but not members of the Academic Senate are invited to run for election to the University of California Retirement System (UCRS) Advisory Board. The non-Academic Senate members of UCRP will vote in March 2001 to fill one vacancy on the UCRS Board. The term of the elected candidate will be April 1, 2001, through June 30, 2004. Candidates for this election may be from any UC location except UCLA; incumbent representative Lori C. Stein is from UCLA and the two non-Academic Senate representatives must be from different locations. In accordance with UCRS provisions, the following individuals are not eligible for initial or continuing membership on the UCRS Board: employees in the University of California Office of the President who are directly engaged in making UCRS policy, or who work in a department where such UCRS policy is made, or who are engaged in providing legal advice to UCRP, the Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan, or the Defined Contribution Plan; as well as all employees of the Offices of Internal Audit at the campuses, laboratories and Office of the President. Interested candidates must submit a brief biographical statement and a petition signed by at least 50 active UCRP members who are not Academic Senate members. Nomination packets will be available from your local Benefits Office beginning the first week of December. UC HR/Benefits must receive completed nomination packets by Friday, January 19, 2001. The UCRS Board exchanges ideas with the President of the University on matters concerning the UCRS plans. These plans are UCRP, the Defined Contribution Plan, and the Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan. These plans hold assets of over $50 billion and represent the retirement interests of all members and participants of the UCRS plans. The UCRS Board consists of nine members: an officer of the University appointed by the President of the University; three persons appointed by the President of the University; the Treasurer of the Regents or the Treasurer's designee; two persons selected by the Academic Senate from the nine campuses, and two persons from different University locations elected by those active members of the Plan who are not members of the Academic Senate. The UCRS Board chair and vice chair are elected by the members of the UCRS Board. The UCRS Board generally meets four times a year in Oakland at the Office of the President. Members serve without compensation, but are reimbursed for necessary travel expenses. |
